Domain Types: Standard and Parked Domains

Dmarcer supports two types of domain licences: Standard Domains and Parked Domains.

Standard Domains

Standard Domains are domains that are actively used by your organisation to send and receive email.

These domains have access to the full range of Dmarcer monitoring, reporting, and management features, including DMARC analysis, DNS monitoring, security assessments, and compliance reporting.

Most business domains will be configured as Standard Domains.

Parked Domains

Parked Domains are domains that are owned by your organisation but are not actively used for email or website services. These domains are often registered to protect your brand, products, campaigns, or common misspellings from cybersquatting and impersonation.

We believe parked domains are frequently overlooked from a security perspective, despite often presenting a significant risk. A parked domain that lacks appropriate security controls can be abused by attackers to send fraudulent emails while remaining unnoticed because the domain is not regularly monitored.

For this reason, Dmarcer plans include a generous allocation of Parked Domain licences, helping organisations secure their wider domain portfolio without consuming valuable Standard Domain licences.

Converting a Domain to Parked

To convert a domain to a Parked Domain:

  • Navigate to Domain Management.
  • Select the domain you wish to update.
  • Open the domain actions menu.
  • Select Convert to Parked.

The domain will immediately begin using a Parked Domain licence.

Parked Domain Monitoring

Parked Domains receive a reduced set of monitoring and reporting features compared to Standard Domains. This allows Dmarcer to efficiently monitor large numbers of defensive registrations while still identifying key security risks.

If Dmarcer detects that a Parked Domain has become actively used, such as the addition of email services or other indicators of operational activity, the domain will automatically be converted to a Standard Domain licence to ensure full monitoring and protection is applied.
