The DMARCER Benchmarks are our ongoing research into the real-world state of domain and email security across the internet. Every month we scan around 140 million domains and give each one a security score, then group the results by industry and by country so you can see how different sectors and nations compare.
What the benchmarks measure
For each domain we look at the same email-security building blocks DMARCER checks for our customers, and turn them into a single, comparable score:
- SPF, DKIM and DMARC, which together stop attackers sending email that pretends to come from a domain.
- DNSSEC, which protects a domain's DNS records from tampering.
- MTA-STS and TLS reporting, which help keep email encrypted while it travels.
Why we do it
Most reports on email security are based on small samples. We wanted an objective, large-scale picture of how well the world is actually protecting its domains, and how that is changing over time. We publish the trends on our website so anyone, from a security team to a journalist or a researcher, can track whether domain security is improving and see where their industry or country stands.
One of the largest datasets of its kind
At around 140 million domains scored every month, we believe few datasets of domain security anywhere are as large or as comprehensive. Just as importantly, we measure every domain against the same consistent set of checks, so the comparisons between industries and countries are fair.
